I came on to respond to a couple of comments people had made so I thought I would take a few extra minutes and provide an update.
I believe my comprehension continues to improve little by little. I will say it has taken some discipline to stop reading captions and to stop lip reading. The captions are easy because you just turn them off – and put up with missing some dialog – but the lip reading is harder to surrender, in part I guess because you are usually trying to have a conversation.
Anyway, I am at the point where I find captions annoying so I will generally turn them off.
There are many sounds now that are also sounding a lot more natural, even my piano, although it’s not what it used to be by any means.
One of the things I am particularly pleased with is my ability to comprehend weather reports and pilot reports when I’m flying. It’s way better than it has been for quite a while pre-implant. I also find that I can hear really well if I take my hearing aid out and put on a headset, pilot or otherwise.
All-in-all I am very pleased with the continuing improvement I am experiencing and so glad that the implant is totally embedded.
I have the Acclaim on 24/7/365 and charge it every 3rd evening and that works for me. I actually think it is a real benefit to keep it on overnight because your brain has the time to get used to all the night sounds.
