Nothing notable yesterday with respect to my implant. I continue to spend some time each day without my left hearing aid.
I definitely noticed this morning that my equilibrium has improved significantly over the last couple of days. I am feeling like I am back to normal.
Right at this moment I have my left hearing aid out and an ear plug in place to force my brain to use the implant as much as possible. I can hear the dog barking outside the door, it’s 35f, wanting to come in. If a dog could breathe helium I’d say he has been doing so, but it’s interesting, even in this short few minutes his bark is sounding more like a bark.
Speech is still pretty difficult. It doesn’t seem to have improved much. I had the great idea to look for some Alistair Begg “Truth For Life” with closed captioning for practice listening and reading so I think I am going to start on that today.
I also need to get back to guitar and piano practice as I have a gig coming up in a little under 3 weeks.
I have not checked my battery capacity as I figure I can wait until the implant warns me I am at 30%.
I am still on profile 3 but I think I am going to switch to profile 4 tomorrow around midday.
I did try playing some tones on the computer into headphones but I could not hear them. My left ear, even with the hearing aid, doesn’t hear anything above about 3k so that’s no surprise. I can tell that the cochlear does hear better than that but I don’t think the audiologist enable 3 or 4 of the electrodes so that may be why I am missing some stuff. I think the return of higher frequencies fatigues the brain or causes discomfort if you have not heard them for years.
I did try downloading the AB Listen and WordSuccess apps. but I can’t user either of them because they want you to bluetooth connect to the device and I can’t do that. I assumed the same is true of ReDi from MED-EL so I just deleted that app off my phone too. There are two other apps. HEROES and ANGEL something or other so I am going to see if I can use either of those two.
Tomorrow will be a week since activation and that will be my last post until next Wednesday and then I will post each Wednesday unless I get a significant change at which point I will post the same of the next day.
