In the Gospel of Luke Chapter 24:13-35, Luke recounts the journey of two disciples as they wend their way to Emmaus. On the road they encounter the risen Jesus who they don’t immediately recognize.
I was at a small group meeting one evening when the leader, John, asked me if I thought I could write a song that told the story. I said, quite cheerfully and confidently, YES.
Then I went home and re-read the story and thought, “Yikes. How am I going to incorporate all of the salient facts into a song ?”
I was messing around, at the time, trying to write tunes the likes of which someone like Sting or Diana Krall might write so I was in “that kind of groove”.
I sat down to write the story and I have to say, it pretty much wrote itself.
Unfortunately, I no longer know how to play it and, as you will hear, it is finger picked so I did not tab it at the time.
Fortunately, I found an original demo recording of the song and this is it.
I do not have a copy of the lyric either but I will transcribe them at some point. I may even work out how to play it again and tab it or work out a piano accompaniment.
In the meantime enjoy it if you can ๐
